I am attempting to contact Matt 'Guitar' Murphy to see if he could autograph a Blues Brothers album. Any ideas of a town or address he may at.
Great article.

If I'm not mistaken the first time I saw Matt "Guitar" Murphy it was at the Fillmore East in 1967 I was a guest so had special seats upfront to the side and the show was Earth Opera, Super Session Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper's super group and the headliners Sam and Dave doing their great R&B show and playing what was an absolutely new top hit Soul Man...

Now what makes the story worth telling is that after the Super Session show Mike Bloomfield came out and sat right next to me and my friend Tim and together with Bloomfield we were only 15 watch Sam & Dave Revue which had Booker-T on Hammond Steve Cropper Guitar Donald Duck Dunn Bass among others with Matt "Guitar"
Murphy guitar if I am not mistaken that's who it was wearing these dark blue prism or crystal style sunglasses and playing a red ES-335..and leaning awful heavy on the wah-wah not only but quite a bit especially during solo's and Bloomfield knowing we played guitar then already kept raving about Matt saying "man that guy is great and you watching this guy this guy is killin man I love these guys they are groovy these guys are great, you payin attention these guys are the best..this is the real thing man this guy is great..!"

I'm pretty certain is was Matt Guitar Murphy who played this tour with Sam & Dave that Bloomfield was raving about and we were just taking it all in soaking it all up of course if Mike was telling us how great he was we had to just listen but I was so impressed with all of them and Michael was my absolute guitar hero still is to be honest so it was something for me to see Bloomfield raving about some else like that but later at other times I saw The Band with Michael in central Park and he really truly loved watching and listening to Robbie and thought Robbie was the greatest and loved them as well truly with a child like enthusiasm and always excited when the music was good which is why i think I haver never been jealous or insecure of my playing or other great players I get the same kick outta someone being good,or great doings something new I haven't seen or just playing their ass off..

Of course Matt was great in the Blues Brothers and I have met a number of their alumni over the years it's a shame to hear a big strong strapping man like Matt is laid low even at 80 let's hope he's being cared for despite how unfair and inequitable our nations health care system is especially for blacks but all our poor..

Matt has always looked youthful, so it is hard to believe he is closing in on 80. I'm glad you liked the article Bill. I will see what I can piece together in The New Year. All the best this holiday season.

Thanks for adding your comments guys ...
