Howdy: Starting to plan for the 2010 Spring and Summer Blues Festival season. Reflecting upon (CRS, used calendars and spreadsheets my wife and I keep) 2009 – what a great year. There were 31 weekends where we saw live (mostly blues) music and only about half in the Atlanta, Georgia area – yes, we travel. Although I avoid large arenas, we went to Washington, DC to see Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood – what an experience – they played 4 or 5 of the only 6 Blind Faith’s songs [one of my all time favorite albums] and Steve reacquainted me with Traffic, which I had forgotten. Their “Live from Madison Square Garden” 2 CD set is a good representation of the show we saw.

Best bar show was at Chip’s Place in Winder, GA where Bernard Allison just jammed on ever tune. I just love small bars, but if y’all ever have the chance to see Bernard, GO! Regardless of the venue or the star power, this evening now ranks in the top 5 happenings I have ever attended since the ‘60s.

In 2009, I also found myself venturing away from blues into Americana. I would be remiss if I did not mention a good-old-Georgia-boy Zac Brown. Over Christmas weekend, we went to our first ever show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. Zac will probably graduate to much larger venues in 2010. The ZBB is nominated for three GRAMMYs - Best New Artist, Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals for "Chicken Fried," and Best Country Album for The Foundation. I will be watching the Grammy Awards to see Zac perform and cheer on the band.

.... great post and they just keep on rockin', Jeff and Eric are definitely two of the guitar master's of the 60's and through the decades I have lived so far !! It's hard to say which one I heard 1st.... back then, we were bombarded by great new music from the "English Invasion" nearly everyday.... and then, the U.S. "counter invasion" too.... well, that's how I remember it !! Now, it's called "Classic Rock".... somehow I knew that.... that 1st time I ever heard those bands !! It was a very special time in musical creativity !!

I think one of the greatest gifts one person can give to another is the ability to be loved. It is so rare to find someone that you can talk to that shares the same interests, has a life worthy of loving the blues and talks about it too!

You've mentioned your wife often, it's as if she is part of this blog too.

I've been following you through some of my own blues times and gotten through just fine, thank you, because this site and your writing style has always helped to put things into perspective.

My whole family ushered in the New Year listening to my husband's band jam on the blues. The music was so much richer after your educational material.

Glad to be your fan.
