Where Is Sade: The Wait Goes On
UPDATE: The Wait Is Over: Soldier of Love Coming Feb 8, 2010
Around 10 months ago I wrote a post on singer Sade. You can view that article by clicking here… TheBluesBlogger site was fairly new and I mentioned briefly that I had guitars on my wall for arts sake. They never usually come off the wall, but sometimes when I hear certain music and the mood strikes, I will tune one of them up and play along. I am not a musician and I never will be, but occasionally I do like to pretend. Sade’s music is simple yet so very soulful and inspiring that I can’t help myself sometimes.
Why The Update?
Nothing much has changed in the way of news or updates. So many people wonder what happened to Sade. They look for any information regarding tours in 2008 and 2009 and fall into the rumor mill of any possible tour, performance or new album. A search around the net will not reveal much information at all. However, I felt the need to say hello to her fans that have continued to visit my post that I wrote almost a year ago. It really has generated some massive traffic… I used to feel a little guilty about the article, as it is obvious that Sade, for many reasons has chosen to slip into the background. And the traffic the post continues to generate was perhaps not helping to cool things off… Then I thought, why should I feel bad? If I’m creating a place for true Sade fans to visit and comment, how bad could that be? People can fade away, but never the music they create; especially Sade’s soulful luscious sound. Like a fine wine, I believe her sound gets better with age.

This Is My Concern
There isn’t much information out there and websites, particularly Sade’s MySpace page, is loosing its focus… The last login was March 2006 and multiple layers of music play over each other. It should really be cleaned up as I find it very disappointing… So many of her fans would love to find a place to discuss her music and the times and feelings they had when they first experienced her special gift. Like a photograph that we look back upon and share with a delightful memory and smile, her music will always live on…
My Offer
If any of her fans have the desire to use TheBluesBlogger site as a means to express themselves, then feel free to comment away. I will moderate the comments in a respectful manner. To make it easier, you can subscribe to updates with a check mark at the bottom where you put your comments. You will then be emailed any updates to this post. Let’s keep things respectful and insightful.
Thanks for visiting TheBluesBlogger site … And who knows, perhaps one day we will discover positive news that we will be able to share with each other. But let’s respect Sade’s decision for whatever she may choose to do… One thing I am confident of is that Sade will always continue to cherish the comments and love from her true fans.
With my strat on my lap I have yet again grooved to the Sade tunes featured here today. What feelings do you get when you hear these sweet sounds? Your comments are most welcome. You can add them to this new updated post, or you can visit last year’s article and add them by going here.

I dream of someday having the opportunity to see Sade live. For now, I continue to feel her music through my stereo.
oh, just in case this gets into the proper hands... when planning a tour, please keep Seattle in mind!
My love is brider than victoria lane. :-) I would travel 1000 miles to see SADE live. I´m with here music since the first album in 84 and no music is more often heard by me then hers. Please, SADE. come on tour again. to europe!!!! No matter where - i´ll be there. Seven years since your last tour - which i missed. Now waiting over 20 years to hear your oice in natural sound. Best regards from Germany M.
I love Sade and her music. I became mesmerized by her music when I first heard it in 1984. Everytime i hear her sing, I get good feelings, whether happy or sad. She is truly a classic.
Every so often I'm moved to google "where is Sade".. the world is a lesser place without new contributions from her. I wish her well, and much love.. Sade, please come back when you are ready and we will all be waiting.
I first fell in love with Sade when I was 14 years old, I am now 38..... When I say fell in love, it was a love that meant more for me on a spiritual level than anything....Every time I would hear her sing, she would take me to a sweet and beautiful place, a place that was perfect and full of grace and beauty. I miss her terribly now, but I certainly respect her for taking time to do with her life what she wants and needs for herself. My selfish side needs more of her soulful voice to embrace me and hold me close.... but if I can't ever have that then I have my collection of her music and my memories.... I saw Sade live in Columbus, Ohio on September 10, 2001....The day before that awful event.... and she was BEAUTIFUL in every regard.... Personable, radiant and just an amazing voice that stirs the music deep within my own spirit. I MUST thank her for that. I had four strokes in 2006 and listened to her for countless hours while I was recovering.... She was always an inspiration for me and continues to be. When God decides to take me home, I have made it known that I am to be buried with a copy of Love Deluxe (my favorite Sade CD)..... That album is a collection of some of her most endearing work and speaks more to me on many levels than anything or anyone has ever done before. Sade..... You are my heart!!! And I miss you terribly! Thomas P.
I also fell in love with Sade at a very young age. I was 15 in 1985 when Smooth Operator was first released and it was love at first listen. Now at 38, I still lover her just as much as day one and am anxiously awaiting a new release. I was just searching around for Sade on the web in hopes of finding anything about a new CD and stumbled across this (and I hope it's true). If anyone can confirm this, that would be great. It's been long enough so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. http://www.raarfm.com/musicnews/new_sade_album_to_be_released_in_2009
I have not heard any news regarding a new release for Sade. The link above claims that Sony has confirmed a new CD for 2009, but doesn't provide a link to that claim. Searching Sony's website shows zero information for a new release... I would love to break new information, but the link above needs to provide further proof to substantiate the claim...
I am a young but true Sade fan. I am only 19 and fell in love with her when I was 13-14 after she released her last album. "By Your Side" was the first song i ever heard from her. Later my cousin told me that she was Nigerian like myself, which shocked me. I soon started listening to her old Cd's and instantly became a fan. Just when I think I know all her songs, I stumble across one I never heard and get excited. Her words are sooo deep, and I just love it. She has helped me through heart breaks, cuz this girl knows how to love. Her words are sooooo passionate. I am even listing to her right now. When ever I have a bad day I just put on some Sade and it calms me down. There is just something about her music that is so unique and soothing. I absolutely love her!!!!!
Yes, I miss Sade. I have been waiting for her come back. At least a concert. I absolutely love her music. My ultimate favorite song is "No Ordinary Love". I can't help but to sing everyone of her songs. Please Sade if you are out there come back and wow us again.
Sony has confirmed a new Sade studio album for early 2009 release!
I have wondered about Lady Sade's whereabout's for the last few years like a lover's letter I keep to remember just how good it was. But then I remember the long hiatus between albums and just what a private person she was. You got the sense that the coolness she had was a shield to protect herself from the public and media. I don't think she enjoyed the business end of making music and maybe she is just living her life and as much as we may love her music it may not be what motivates her anymore. I certainly hope we have not heard the last of her musically but I am content with memories and sounds she has already given us.
As I mentioned above, until I see a real link to Sony's website with an announcement to a new album for 2009, comments like these will continue to be only rumors... Sorry, don't want to give false hope...
I will love to see Sade in live concert, that's my dream since I heard the first song when I was 13, I didn't know at that time who was the girl with the beautiful voice, since that I started to look for that person, and finally found her, Sade, shes amazing, I already have many cd's, dvd's, I love to see her concert's, I feel so peaceful, happy, all the good feelings, I very love her songs, please some day I want to see her singing in New York, I will be very happy.
Nice to meet you Blues Blogger! Having started Sade Fans International in 2001, I've been able to keep up with the latest news about Sade. The last correspondence I had regarding any new CD is below however...(notice the date). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Re: Touching Base From: Cottonbelly1@aol.com Sent: Wed 10/04/06 1:30 PM To: jarvanites@hotmail.com Hi Just finished mixing the score for a new movie called Astronaut Farmer Starring Billy Bob Thornton and Virginia Madsen. Should be out in the new year. I'll be putting the score out on CD. Oh there is talk that we might be going back in the studio early next year with Sade....... Hope you are well Stuart ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Okay so I thought they would have had the CD out by now. But alas...we wait on! I have not heard from Stuart since November 2007. Really. I will try contacting him again. In the inbetween time y'all should visit us at: http://sadefaninternational.multiply.com/ We had more members when it was under MSN but since transitioning to Multiply few have come over. We're expecting more activity when there IS a CD released. LOL Peace Out! Happy New Year! Jarvadu Founder Sade Fans International
Thanks Jarvadu for commenting... I really appreciate it. Happy New Year to you too! Please, let's keep in touch.
Sade's music and unique style will always be a part of me..Such a beautiful lady...She was like an angel in her presence...Hurry back Sade, you are missed.
I was in my junior year of highschool when I was introduced to Miss Adu. I was in love with George Vicks and he loved Sade ! I often wonder where he is and where Sade is !
In reference to the Astronaut Farmer score, the movie and the score where excellent!
I have been a long time fan of Sade's musical talents from day one. I fell in love with her natural beauty.sensual voice, passionate lyrics and outstanding performance in the early 80's at the Tower Theatre, Phila. PA.She was so AWESOME!!, I didn't even complain about sitting in the Nosebleed section. My first favorite song will forever be 'MAUREEN' from the Promise album. I love and miss Sade's presence.
Sade is a unique entertainer with an international following. I saw her at Blossom Music Center in Bath, Ohio years ago. She was absolutely stunning, statuequest, and barefoot! Aside from her beautiful voice, I was enchanted by her waiste-length hair! "Somebody already broke my Heart"..is one of my all time favorite songs. I heard some distrubing words the other day and set out on a quest to see what I could find. Is Sade is a herion addict? It sorta makes sense that she dropped off the scene..and it may explain the gritty soulfulness in her lyrics. It also makes it easier to except "how someone could walk away from her"... Come back to us Sade Adu, we still love you!
I LOVE HER and have loved her music sinc e the 80's Lovers Rock is an awesome collection and I miss her dearly. Please come back to us SADE we miss you
this is the year...she going to come back to show everybody how good she looks at 50....i have been I'm love with her since I was 13...i know ger well...she a anti diva an the greatest artist of all time....
sade is the greatest artist of all time....a true "anti diva" fame is not her main concern....but this the year she will come back....remember she said she never turn her back on us.....
Been to 2 concerts and waiting for a 3rd. Fan for life.
Im listening to "The Best Of" right now, and everytime I hear her music, I always wonder "Where is she?" I heard she married a prince, or something to that nature, then I heard drugs awhile ago...I don't know, where ever she is, I hope she knows she's missed and adored
i hope its not drugs..i really need her music ..she is the a dark raven of fate...so mysterious and alluring..where is she ..please come back ...
I'm the king of sorrow...
I CANNOT BELIEVE I HAVE FOUND THIS SITE. SADE IF YOU OUT THERE READING THIS I BEG YOU TO PLEASE GO ON TOUR. I STILL REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME I HEARD YOUR MUSIC, I WAS ONLY 13 YEARS OF AGE. I THOUGHT TO MYSELF WHO EVER SINGS THAT SONG HAS A VERY NICE VOICE. FROM THAT DAY ON I WAS SO INTERESTED IN YOUR MUSIC. AS I GOT OLDER I FOUND YOUR VOICE TO BE SO SOPHISTICATED MAKING ME FEEL AS IF I WAS AS SOPHISTICATED AND ELEGANT AS YOUR VOICE. WHEN I MET MY HUSBAND AND MENTIONED THAT I LOVE YOUR MUSIC I WAS IN HEAVEN WHEN HE SAID " I AM A SADE MUSIC JUNKY" I HAVE TAPES OF HER SONGS RECORDED FROM THE THE RADIO. IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE THAT SONG RECORDED, I JUST FEEL THE NEED TO HAVE IT ON EVERY TAPE THAT I OWN" WE ARE NOW 37 AND 38 YRS OLD AND TODAY YOUR NAME CAME UP. I HAVE MADE A LIST OF THINGS THAT I WANT TO ACCOMPLISH IN LIFE AND WATCHING YOU LIVE IS ONE OF THEM. FOR THOSE WHO ARE OUT THERE SEARCHING FOR SADE. YOU SHOULD WRITE TO HER AND MAYBE ONE DAY SHE WILL STUMBLE TO THIS SITE, AND HOPEFULLY SHE DECIDES TO GO ON TOUR. WE LOVE YOU SADE!! SINCERELY, JENNY (NY)
does sony music have a current address for sade adu?
I do not care where she is. All I know that it is time for her to get back on stage because we all miss her so much !!!
Sade's music is timeless! I am a Jazz saxophonist and she has been my biggest influence in music. Her tunes have also helped me to study, relax, chill, and have been soothing for me in rough times as well. It would be a dream for me to play in her band. In short, looking forward to her comeback album and tour! I've never had the chance to see her in concert but will go to see her at the first opportunity Sade, please come back! You have touched so many lives with your music!
It dives It jumps And it ripples like the deepest ocean... My husband and I missed that tour in 2001. Oh how I hate that. I will not miss the next one -- whenever it is I'm going to be there. I first heard her when I was 13 and have loved her since. I hope the rumors of a new release in 2009 are true.
You are a souped up car in that rent-a-go-cart town. We Miss You. Sade's music helped me through a difficult time in the early-mid 80s. Then I'll be damned if her Lovers Rock CD didn't help get me through some recent personal problems. One thing I admire so much is their apparent friendship/camaraderie. Not just Sade Adu, but Stuart, Andrew, Paul and all the rest; they are missed. Sade, your songs are gifts but is it selfish to ask for one more tour?
I missed u in 2001 too...whats was I thinking thank God for the DVD.....
every day was christmas....an ever night was new years eve....where u at boo?
Sade Live. Will travel anywhere in the world to see her live. However, California or Italy would be nice.
I have all her albums and videos, was a fan since junior high..I had DIamond Life on Vinyl and used to listen to it while I did my home work, while other knuckle heads my age were playing Def Leppard Pyromania. Anyhoo, I DID see her during the Lovers Rock tour...I had a feeling it would be a rare chance. I saw her in Worcester MA....I paid $200 PER ticket, for 3rd row, and me and my GF at the time (we are now married), went to the concert...it was a magical night.
I missed the Love Deluxe tour and vowed then I wouldn't miss the next one and I didn't. That Lovers Rock tour was fantastic. I was soo looking forward to it, and it did not disappoint. I sure hope she and the band do release a new cd this year. I'll be first in line to buy it!
I have been a fan since I was 8 or 9 years old. I remember seeing the Smooth Operator video on MTV and thinking that she was the most beautiful lady in the world. I missed her last tour since I was nine months pregnant and the closest venue was 3hrs away. How I would love to see her live and I cannot wait until she comes out with a new CD. In the meantime I will enjoy her past music which is timeless.
If by chance you're reading this Sade, know that God has Blessed you with a 'Gift of Love' You brighten & touch so many people lives. You are truly 'Heaven Sent' A Blessing from God. I've always believed that in order to be 'Bless' is to sacrifice one self in order to be able to Become a Blessing for others. You on the other hand has gone 'Far Beyond' the calling... As far as I'm concern you've earned you wings from Heaven...Continue to be what God design you to be, and that is to 'Serve' You're my Hero...May God continue to Bless You and the 'Band' I will continue to keep you all in my prayers. P.S True Love doesn't have a Happy Ending; For True Love doesn't have an Ending.
We do miss her and my very biggest wish ever - especially this year for my 30th birthday - definitely is and ever will be... please COME BACK, we want you back on stage!!! Everyday I make a wish to get the opportunity to see you on stage just once in my lifetime! You´re a siren :-)))
I had the pleasure of seeing her live in Kansas City many years ago. No one comes close to her pure sound, not Rianna, not Beyonce, no one. Sade come back, we need to hear some pure music. We love you, please come back.
I miss you SADE : (
Dear all, Sade and me thats a long history back in the eighties of the last century. So I started very early and I have everything on records from her. I saw her live once in Hamburg (Germany where I come from) and the Lovers Live Tour in US. After 8 Years of waiting there is still a hope that I can really hear new things from her and would give money as hell when I can see her Live again...she is brilliant. I miss her!
When I first heard her, I stopped dead in my tracks, and nothing was ever the same again. Something was so simple, yet so different than anything else . . . I was only 12 or 13 years old, must have been 1985 or 1986. And let's give the band their due, unbelievably complimentary! They play so well together and complement her beautiful voice. She is timeless. That I never saw her and the band live is shameful!!! As I listen to Sade, she just gets better, I'm 36 years old now, and will travel the globe to see her. I've listened to all your music for over twenty years. It's typical that you would keep your blessings in repose, but at a certain point it will be time to exalt your virtue once again. With faith, we patiently wait . . .
The Sony USA Sade Site is up and running! check it out y'all! http://www.sadeusa.com/ this is a real sign of things to come! YES!! jarvadu peace out! Hey BluesBlogger!

I am waiting for any information on Sade. I believe you are right she has slipped in the background. I can only hope that she is raising her beautiful children and working on an awesome album. Sade if you are reading these blogs, please take your time. I am willing to pay premium for your tour tickets. Thanks, Allison
I saw Sade when she first came out with smooth operator, and then her last Concert Lovers Rock Tour, which was wonderful her music flows thru you and gives you that good feeling. Her voice is so smooth and you just crave more of her wonderful talent! Sade please come back and give us another Great! performance. I hope you are happy and living well, but I miss you and want to purchase your next CD I pray for the best for you, but also hope you are writing some wonderful songs for us to hear. Blessings To You, Jo Ann
Sade Adu= Earth-Angel No musicians have touched me like Ms. Adu & her band have. For the past 7-8 years, almost every night I have drifted off to sleep to their sweet melodies. I can't remember the last time a day has gone by w/o Sade (she is one of my few addictions). Sade, if you ever read this: THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My Top 6 Sade Tracks: 1. Cherish the Day 2. Cherry Pie 3. Is It A Crime 4. Haunt Me 5. Keep Looking 6. Smooth Operator PS: Does anyone know where to find Sade's rare, unreleased tracks? I've found a lot of remixes, but haven't been able to find MP3's of songs like Spirit, Room 55, Love Affair With Life, Make Some Room, etc. Any new Sade to tide me over before her new album would be greatly appreciated..thanks...
I am a long lasting fan of Sade, I lived in San Diego during her uprise and have children who are also Nigerian. Her music inspired me back then (in the 80's) and as much even now. I remember when she came to San Diego I longed so much to go to the concert but could not. I recorded the reviews of her concert from my radio and have it yet to this day. Her style of singing is enhanced even more so by her classic way of dressing on stage and the respectful manor in which she seemed to always carry herself. I hope to one day meet this very powerful woman and pray that she releases at least one more CD before calling it quits! For ever a true fan...The BeanMaster
SADE i love you let us her from you. i wish you well. come soon to Holland
New sade album 2009 cant wait
Dear Sade, Reading this probably strikes you as funny as it strikes me that I am writing it . But, here goes anyways. Thank you, your love is KING. Whatever your doing these days, I pray you are well. I have listened to your music since the eighties. I cant imagine my life with out your music playing in the background. FYI, In 1992, I moved to Colorado to be with the love of my life. he was studying at Denver University. We drove to "Canyon Lands" and decided to walk out through the canyons at sunset. Your voice and music played in my head the entire time. We watched a sunset that mesmerized us both. Heading back home we climbed back into our car tired and in love. We were delayed about 1000 yards outside of a mountain tunnel due to falling rock. I slipped your music out of my backpack and into the tape player. A storm came up, Your music entranced us and the next thing I know we were in the throws of passion. "Your Love Is King" searing through our souls. We looked at each other as cars passed by, tears streaming down my face. The rest is history. 9 months later we had a baby girl. Her name is Savannah. The love of my life died in 2005. I remember that moment like it was yesterday. Your voice, your music, always in the background. This is me.....still remembering you......saying ......thank-you....it wouldn't have been the same without you.... Truly, Leghanna Summers
sade like many will claim i am your biggest fan...so from all of us who feel that way bless us with your beautiful, soothing voice. every song i have of yours will never be played out. one of my ultimate live shows i wanna see is yours so please visit south africa one day...i dnt blame you for taking time out and keepin a low profile...take your time but let us know when we will be hearing you again
This article was on a website I frequent just this past Monday, 06/01/09 According to Billboard, Sade is recording her first album of new material since 2000’s Lovers Rock. Known for her long delays between releases, Sade and the group that bears her name are in the studio. Although Sony has not set a release date, the label hopes the record will be out by the end of 2009. “She is in the studio and the album will come when it is ready,” a source at Sony told Billboard. “You don’t wait for years for one and then rush it.”
Sade, if you happen to read this, know that I was unable to come up with the money to see you in concert the one chance I had years ago when I was much younger. It has pained me ever since. I am now able to see you wherever you happen to appear on the planet. There is nothing that will keep me from traveling to see you live and experience the magic that you weave for us all. We love you! Just say when and I am there!
Miss Sade Adu, You will always be the lady in my life! I know we could never be together, but I will always have your CDs and dvds to enjoy. May God bless you, and your family and friends.
Salam, I love her music and will be a fan for life. Sade's music is hypnotic.
...what else can be add to all this soul and heart expressions.... her music always make me feel deep into me and in a very deep balance with love and nature.... all we wish is that she could live as such way and gift us with more of his heart and soul converted in music.... thanks for that unique moments
I was VERY FORTUNATE to be able to see SADE live in concert at the Heymann Center for the Performing Arts in Lafayette, Louisiana about 15 years ago. My then boyfriend and now husband bought tickets for us! It was truly an AMAZING concert experience. She is ALL that and much more. Unforgettable voice and a very classy lady. Oh PLEASE hurry Miss Adu and bless us again with your music!
I felt in love with Sade's music about 18 years ago when I first moved to NY, the first song I ever heard was Kiss of Life and ever since I could not stop listening to her music. I wish I had an opportunity to see her in concert ..... Sade's music touches my soul..... I hope soon we get the news that she is going on tour or that she has a new album...............
sade is amazing! i love her please come on tour t0 LA!!! ur #1 fan!!
She gave all of us the kiss of music that touch our souls, we will always cherish it and wait for the day that she is by our side because it should be a crime to be that great! We'll keep looking and keep waiting. Come back to us Sade.
Not only did Sade and her band invent a new artform...a type of music no other group has ever matched and is so enchanting, literally hypnotic, soulful and deeply moving...not only is she absolutely gorgeous and sexy in so many ways...as a young artist, and even today as she ages with the rest of us who have followed her every breath for decades - the way she moves - like no other woman - and as a torch singer - without compare in 10000 years - and then to disappear as she did...well she's a mother now and probably has deeply personal reasons (is there anything about her that isn't deep). And for all the fans that love her or cherish her music or would bleed to see her live - she is not the Rolling Stones - she's much more intimate and perhaps the revenue of the concerts, weighed against upsetting a peaceful life with her close friends - perhaps the musical tour scene just isn't inviting enough. Few musicians enjoy the road when family calls them home, even if they are making millions. So why is she invisible? She wants to be and can be and while we all want to be with her, to hear her touch our hearts, move our souls and be there for us - perhaps she is where she is for the people she loves - and that, even for us, should be more important - because if she's happy, can you be sad? Life has always been a series of bittersweet events - and we are lucky to have her music, her videos, and perhaps another album or two or three - who knows - but most importantly, with so many people who love her music and who suggest she is the ultimate Diva (I'd say so), then if we are true to our hearts and to her, whether she is on tour or with her family and friends, we should all be happy if she is happy and delighted if she happens to show up one night in a smokey club, pick up a mic, and enchant a crowd of 10 or 10,000 - no matter what - it would be a magic night indeed.
Blues Blogger, Here is another reason not to feel guilty for your posts on Sade: I think they may remind us that not all artists are in it for the fame or notoriety....some just have soul. Your words remind me that we need to respect the distance that some may keep between themselves and the rest of the world. That said, Sade, why don't you just record and not tour? Hearing your voice would be better than good enough.
I posted a comment almost a year ago. In that time, my love for Sade has only grown. I know in my heart that Sade loves her fans despite the fact that we have not heard from her. We don't always know when people in our lives love us, but we can sense it if we try. It becomes so much a part of us that we are comforted by it even when the person we love is no where near us....they are in our hearts, our fiber, our being. I miss Sade as much as anyone, but out of my love for her, I pray that she be well and return to her fans if and when she is ready to. I am an extreme fatalist in life. Everything happens as it is supposed to, we have little control. People that are so rare and beautiful should never be forced to share their gift at the insistence of others. And Sade is that.....a rare gift! She is untarnished by the "machine" that is music today. My respect for her is immeasurable!!!!!! Sade has given me so many memories. Memories that keep me in love. Memories that bring hope.....that bring sadness, but most of all memories that bring me closer to knowing that there is good in a world of bad, beauty in the presence of ugly, and that memory insists that we grow despite the lack of light. Sade has given us ALL of that!! Even if she never writes another word, sings another song or tours another continent. She has been our gift! If she comes back it is because it is destined to be! Be not discouraged by her not being apparent in your life.....look deeper....she's there! Sade---truly, I couldn't love you more if I tried. To the creator of this site, my deepest and most sincere thanks for creating a place where we can talk of the Lady Sade! I look forward to every post that I see in my email. Thanks again and please know you have my respect and gratitude! Thomas
And here's something to consider as well. I write music, play and have been in bands, orchestrated films and know musicians and vocalists deeply. I listen to her music - it has changed over the years. That happens to most bands and vocalists. I notice here and there she's picked up a rather deep Jamaican accent - perhaps she's living there now. I think I read somewhere she was there for awhile. Think about it - you live in a beautiful place with your family and friends and find 'Paradise' and then some record label wants you to honor a contract, make an album and hit the road for awhile. It helps to be in control of your music and tours, but I wonder if she is. I go to the sadeusa web site and it just doesn't FEEL like her site - it sort of lacks any of her spirit there. It reminds me of a poster-boy/slap-up web site a record label would do. Go there - and then think about how artistic she is - and tell me - IF YOU WERE HER - A FORMER MODEL/FASHION DESIGNER/DIVA etc. with HER flair and HER soul - would YOUR site look like that? I doubt it. Its devoid of her spirit and soul (my two cents). And then there's the band itself - which has new players added - notice the sweet Caribbean harmonies coming out of the two black guys on the video for the live version of Somebody Already Broke My Heart - youtube version. Notice the smokey voice she has on that cut. Her voice is changing ever so slightly - she is evolving and getting older (don't faint - she will) and as she does, perhaps she wonders if her music and some new style that emerges will still have the same appeal. Listen to the rhythms - less like Brazilian (early Sade) more Caribbean - By Your Side is a classic example (and one of my favorites - I love going to sleep with that song playing - absolutely like closing your eyes and falling into her arms and drifting off (ok boys - wake UP!) She's probably working with more artists that are in the Caribbean - and the songs may or may not be up to her standard. She is probably cultivating and grooming talent to fine tune the new members. And she was born on the same day as my sister - a perfectionist - so it won't be easy for her, especially if she is working with an easy going group that keeps saying "Baby - its good enough" and she keeps saying - "Rewrite it - here - here and here". Easy going people can be a tough place to be for a perfectionist. No new album in 10 years? There are reasons for that that may include being a mom, having no desire to go on tour, having new writers around her that can't turn it out like the boys back in Britain - and not wanting to go to England anymore - I mean who would want to leave the Caribbean with all the beauty there? And then there may be a bad relationship with the record label. Michael Jackson (and many people) aren't fond of how Sony handles talent. Why would Sade be any different? I did a whois search and YUP - Sony owns sadeusa.com - not Sade herself. If I were her, I'd get my own domain - like sadeswhispers.com - or something - and I would control the content and tell Sony to enjoy - but stay out of my way. Based on the black and gray colors of the site they put up for her - I mean it certainly has none of the flair we often see in the clothing she brings to shoots or the colorful music she brought to us for decades. So - imagine an artist who on the one hand is living in Paradise, and on the other is perhaps contractually bound - or for reasons of finance - pressured into doing an album and perhaps a tour - and then it becomes WORK instead of PLAY and a talented musician/vocalist treated like a work horse isn't a pleasure to be around. They have to have fun or its a drag and that involves the right group, the right writers, the right manager who cultivates the talent like family instead of like a cash cow and the right tour schedule that gives the talent plenty of time at home (paradise) and insures they aren't burned out. Some labels treat their talent like that. Many do not. So - if there is anything that WE can do for her - perhaps write 101 new songs for Sade (and the new band and new sound) and see if we can lighten their load - give them plenty of material to choose for the album - and then if it takes her 2 - 3 years to do a tour other bands do in a season - just be glad she's having fun again. That, to me, is one way to handle her absence - wish her a good day - every day - where she has FUN being a Diva instead of being FORCED to do a job.
I got it - I think ... Because we're building an online radio station and I have to listen to HOURS (days?) of tracks that test all the software - and because I'm paying for this - I had a disproportionate number of Sade's cuts loaded (hey I have to listen to this ALL DAY LONG - so it should be her - right?) and some country, blues, rock, some explicit (we have to test that stuff to make sure the kiddies can be protected) and good old Enya since she can play for hours and its sort of background - unlike Sade - that can sound like background but keeps dragging me away from my work - to continue researching her. I have a baby picture of her now - about 20 photos from her early years before the band was formed - and some video clips/interviews - early and mid years - and the love shows - the compilation is getting rather huge - (well not too big - but a bit). And its like watching a girl grow up - and become, rather evolve, into what she did become - to us - this magical Diva who's music is so out of this world - it really is. But when you see this little girl turn into THAT woman and then see the photos as she became a mom, is an older girl now, and you realize - she's human just like every one of us (ok guys - put down the tomatoes). A few shots in her later years shows it - and then I run a track (original Is It A Crime video) and WOW - that girl in that video - oh my God - why didn't my wife look like that - and she was a Canadian model?!?! Simply outrageously, drop dead gorgeous. Now look at you and remember how cute you were at that age and how you are now (and if you ain't 50, lemme tell ya - you ain't 20 no more baby and 30 to 50 is a coke, a cheeseburger and a fry - old Brooklyn line). So - she has this Diva image (physical) and that's evolved to who she is now and perhaps shielding us from that 'fallen angel' is part of the silence. She has this musical image - what was the first 20 years - and that has evolved. You hear it in her accent on some of the tracks - more Caribbean than it was in the early years - and the rhythm - listen to Flow, listen to By Your Side - and that jazzy Brazilian beat is shifting into a happy Caribbean beat. Its evolving too. So - how do you tell your fans that you're a real girl - who grew into a woman - and that all this Diva stuff (while certainly true) - isn't who you are. You're a mom, a singer, a human being - and perhaps a little gun shy worrying about the fall from grace. I wonder if she'll still do torch numbers when she's a grandma...(don't faint). If she can develop the strength inside to allow fans to 'grow old with her' - and I think she is developing that character now - then she will remain timeless - as her music already is today. So - silence? Invisible? An album coming out? I wonder what's going on in her mind - and hopefully she knows that those of us who have loved her since the 1980s - still do today.
I miss you Sade very much please come back to us we begging you, nobody can sing like you can I love your music since I was little...
Sade (not forgetting that this word always includes all the incredibly talented musicians who featured on all those brilliant tracks we are all still playing) has given so much pleasure to so many, that she has earned her quiet place in the sun. However, having discovered the band after they had stopped touring, I and I guess countless others like me are in danger of going to our graves without seeing a live concert. Sure we've all bought the DVDs but good as they are it's hardly a substitute. If anyone out there knows how to persuade the band to do just one more World tour - pleeeeeze try.
I saw Sade in Fort Lauderdale back in 2001...she was magnificent. Worth every penny and more. Her voice was perfect and her performance was spectacular. I would drive a long way to see her again! Sade! Where are you?

I'm listening to Pandora Radio (Sade, of course) and got curious (once again) about any new updates surrounding Sade, especially having learned that she has a new CD out (which I am purchasing right after I click on the submit button). This is the first site I clicked on and read every single word. I'm a private person, so I have immense respect for others who choose to stay low, too. I am 55 years old and have been a devoted fan of Sade since day one. Nobody comes close to Sade. Nobody. I feel eternal when I listen to Sade's songs. I ditto what Thomas posted on 10/13/2009. I embrace Sade always. Her songs take me places where dreams can only go. I am forever 25 whenever I hear Sade sing. My blessings to Sade. Always. A devoted fan.
My sister just shared a Sade Live DVD and we both went down memory lane. I was living in Santa Barbara, CA when "Sweetest Taboo" came out. Such a sexy voice, such a sexy woman, where are you Sade, we miss you and love you!!!
OMG is she really coming out with a new album? I cannot believe it... FINALLY the wait is over.... I am totally in love with her music. She is the best, the most classic ever. I can listen t Sade all day, everyday. Whatever mood I'm in... the best is after a long day, you come home, relax with some wine while listening to her. I'd LOVE to see her live, please consider NYC if she's ever here for tours and did I mention I cannot wait?
She came along, when I needed a savior! Now I have 7 years recovery from PTSD, depression, and substances. Now I have an inner peace like never ever before. I love you Sade! Al Krull
